I guess I'll just get a 360 controller. Is the official one the best or are there any third party models I should get

Logitech F-310 is $18 at bestbuy, it's what I use and it's a very solid choice. You really can't beat it for the price. Resembles the ps3 controller with a one piece D-pad instead of the individual buttons.

Personally I wish it was a little heavier, and the actuation point on the triggers is farther down than I would like considering how stiff they are, however those are more personal preference issues than actual "issues" with the game pad. It also supports the logitech software to custom bind all of the inputs, so it is fully customizable in that regard (which is especially nice when the actual game has limited "controller schemes" to chose from, or doesn't support a controller at all). Of course if the game *does* have native controller support, and you like the available configurations non of that is necessary and it is 100% PnP.

Wired 360

Nothing else is as good or as compatible with every game.

Get a wired 360 or a wireless one then buy the receiver dongle for PC ( like $15 more). Any should technically be fine but I've always been a fan of the default MS ones.

Get a Logitech gamepad. I love those things.

I actually already have a wireless 360 controller and the dongle. But personally I'm not sure I really like the d-pad on these things. I've been told the new ones are better though.

Yup. craigslist is a good place to look.

If you want a controller that's been to hell and back, if you want a working controller I'd suggest spending the $50/60 for a new DS3, or just pay the $40 or so for a 360 PC controller and avoid having to use the thinly veiled Chinese malware known as MotioninJoy.

Is the xbox one controller notably better than the 360 controller?

I think I may just shell out for it if it's really really good. My current controller randomly loses power during play, even with new batteries.

On a related note, is there anyway to properly set up the 360's analog sticks with ePSXe? The right analog stick doesn't map properly. Left and down have the same map in ePSXe
