Please help with monitor problem!

#1BananaLintPosted 8/13/2014 6:59:01 PM
The monitor I'm having trouble with is Asus mx279h. I bought it mostly for a ps4 however I do plan on getting a PC later. Anyway I noticed that playing games with the ps3 looked bad. The image was quite blurry compared to my Sony bravia 32" 720p TV. Moving the sharpness slider does nothing. Even on the xmb and wipeout HD I see no noticeable improvement despite them being in native 1080p. Still not a sharp image.

If i keep the monitor will the ps4 games look blurry as well? Thanks for any help.

Are you positive that your systems are set for 1080p output in the settings?

I know that every time I go to a friend house, he's got his ps3 set at 720p on his 1080p screen, and that's exactly what you're describing.

I say this because you also mention having a720p TV and it looks sharper there

It's probably going to look the same, meaning blurry. Unlike your TV, your monitor doesn't have an upscaler built in, which is why ps3 games look blurry.

All monitors have an upscaler. Everything except native is upscaled unless you run 1:1.

Yeah my ps3 settings are outputting 1080p. I have 180i and 720p unchecked. Wipeout hd looks worse played on the monitor than on my TV. My sharpness on the TV is high. But I don't think that would make too big of difference. Sharpness on my monitor is maxed.

Would blurays be upscaled if I watch them from my ps3? Or would they run in native 1080p?

Bluray would run at 1080p. 720p is going to look worse on a 1080p monitor than a 720p monitor. 1080p has twice the pixels as 720p.

Just tried watching a bluray on the monitor and it looks worse than my TV. Not crisp at all. Maybe my monitor is defective?

Go into the monitors menu and look to see what resolution its receiving, should be 1920x1080.
