after reading some topics, I'm depressed that I can only afford a R9 280x

I'm running the r9 270x and so far am QUITE satisfied with the purchase. The 280x will serve you well.

If you're really THAT worried about performance, buy a used 290x from a 100% positive feedback seller on Ebay. That's what I'm doing in a few months when I upgrade my 270x. The 270x is a fine card, btw. The 280x is also a fine card.

I'm surprised nobody has asked, but what's the budget or how much are you spending for that 280x?

A 280x is a 7970. It'll do good. I've got two crossfired running anything on highest, sometimes I single and still get 30-40~

you could buy a used AMD R9 290 for around 250-300$. try to get one from msi, asus or gigabyte since their warranties are serial number based.

Seems like I'm at least a hundred bucks short of a quality gpu.

LMAO..the 280x is much better than a 760 and 770, and can even compete against 780

i think it's nice

it's a 7970 ghz edition but more beefed up..it can crossfire with that card but will reduce it's specs to match

What games do you want to play that your worried about a 280x not being enough? Are you gaming at 2560x1440 or something? That card can run anything at halfway-decent settings

No, just on a 1080p tv. I feel like it's going to fall way behind once stuff like Witcher 3 comes out. I haven't even built my pc yet, but I'm on a tight budget.

30% better is 30% better. If you can't run Witcher 3 on a 280x, you probably couldn't run it on a 290x.
There's no magical cutoff point like some people would like you to believe. If you're getting 30fps in a game, and someone else has a card that's ~30% faster, they're only getting 40.

As you can see, 290x is ~30% better than 280x or so.
It's about par with a 770 or 7970GHz. Right in that ~680esque pile.

Its a R9 280, but it might strike your fancy.
