It's actually MORE demanding than any other actual sport. Do you see 30-35 year old pro gamers? No. When a pro gamer reaches about 25 years of age, his sponsors will already be contemplating firing the player, with very few exceptions like Merlini who recently joined a team.

That's all because nearing 30 you can't be as fast as a 17yo kid. That just shows how prepared you have to be to thrive in this area and I'm glad e-sports are getting some love from the media now.

I think it's because a 30 year old will usually have much much higher priorities than spending all his time playing video games.

Nearing 30 you can be a heck of a lot smarter than a 17 year old kid. Maybe reaction speed declines because you've got more going on up there. And maybe you're tired of playing StarCraft. Or DotA or whatever.

have you ever seen a 35 year old football (soccer) player ?

It's weird that pirates would go from shore to shore looking for buried treasure,
when the real treasure was in the friendships they were making.

just like a 30 year old UFC fighter has higher priorities than spending all his time fighting? or a 30 year old driver has higher priorities than driving around a track?

I think e-sports are pretty entertaining to be quite honest. I'm probably older than a majority of the players that I've watched play but I still find it entertaining to see what high ranked player matches look like, no matter the genre whether it be a fighting game, RTS, FPS, etc.

The thing is that when these top ranked players retire, what are they going to do with their future? I seriously doubt lifetime earnings from winning competitions will last for a long time, so I hope these e-sports players have at least some kind of plan to fall back on when they decide to call it quits.

It doesn't matter how physically demanding the sport is, hell why do you think that so many people watch golf. If people wanted to see a display of raw human strength and endurance, they'd watch worlds strongest man or something.

It's all about how entertaining it is to watch, because when people watch sports they watch for the entertainment. E-Sports aren't exactly entertaining to watch, the games aren't built for watching, they're built for playing. Unless you already have some sort of pre-disposition of how a certain game works, watching it is going to be no fun.

Also, E-sports are relatively new in comparison to regular sports, most people who care about traditional sports are adults who don't give a flying fish about E-sports and never will. It's only until the generation that grew up with E-Sports becomes adults, and games become more interesting to watch (without any given context) in general will E-Sports be taken seriously.

Sorry but I'm never going to look at a "professional" StarCraft or League of Legends player and have the same respect for them that I do for someone like Lebron James or Chris Paul. And luckily, the vast majority of the general public agrees with me.

Isn't Brett Farve like 40? He still plays...

Also TC E-sports are a joke. Its like Golf. You can be overweight and still do well.

We're Americans! We don't quit just because we're wrong.
We just keep doing the wrong thing until it turns out right.
