World of Warcraft Subscription Costs Increasing This November For UK Region

Good. It's about time WoW died off. It's long overstayed its welcome.

Maybe now devs might actually try to make decent MMOs instead of just copying WoW.

However, Blizzard also announced that World of Warcraft subscribers who are currently on a recurring subscription will be able to retain their current subscription price for two years, as long as the subscription is not interrupted

You know it's funny how people run their mouths about "decent mmos" but rarely have ideas about how to do one.

Your problem is you've spent your whole life thinking there are rules. There aren't. We used to be gorillas.

This is ridiculous.

Exchange rates have been favourable to the UK, if anything Blizzard should be reducing the price to UK consumers.

This

6 months ago it would cost me around 7.80 to get $10 on (insert poker site here)

Now I can get $10 for around 6

This is just a dirty move on buzzards part

WoW is "dying" with only 6 million subs or so still active.

Lots of people play wow in asia
These people don't pay monthly
A single log on for 1 minute from someone in asia counts as a "wow subscriber"

I only started in Cata and even then I could see the game was dying. Unfriendly people, no one talking, nothing "group" based that wasn't with friends or pre-arranged by the game. It was truly on life support by the time I cancelled. Just after pandaland

Eh? The rest of Europe pays 12.99 a month, which is 10.40. Why would the UK be in line for a reduction?

Because Blizzard are a US company, so for the past 3 years (exchange rate roughly 1.00 to $1.50) they've been getting $13.50 from UK subscribers. Now the exchange rate is in the region of 1.00 to $1.65 so they're getting $14.85. By increasing the fees to 10 per month they're going to be getting $16.50 per month.

Basically they're saying 'screw you' and upping the price because ?!

I couldn't care less what the rest of Europe pays.

so doing a price hike like this invites bad publicity for no good reason

It feels to me like Activision is finally working their way into Blizzard's business model.
****ing Activision...
(I don't know if it's actually Activision, but yeah, it's been a few years since the buyout, it's bound to happen eventually.)

On the "WoW is dying" front before WoW successful MMORPGs were measured in subscriptions in the hundred thousands or even ten thousands. WoW isn't going anywhere any time soon. Games with less than a tenth of WoW's subscriptions have gone on for a decade or more.
