Why does Windows 8 make my PC go all skynet and force me to update and restart?

Because you screwed around for at least half a week without doing it at a time of your choosing.

Yeah you gotta change that option.
It's been the first thing I do on every computer I have owned since Windows XP first introduced that stupidity.

At least 7 and 8 give you a warning, XP used to just restart and not give you a chance to save your work if you just happened to be away from your computer when it decided to do this.

I noticed 7 and 8 seem to have no trouble deciding to download and install updates (or just download) while your in a game, causing you to lag or stutter or lose framerate. So I disable updates entirely now and instead just every once in awhile run windows update manually.

It's stupid that updates need a restart in this day and age.
