Why do people keep spreading the resolution lie?

#1deadguy8608Posted 8/18/2014 6:25:54 AM
I notice a lot of people keep saying that the human eye can't tell the difference between 720 and 1080. Why?

I mean this would make sense for a console gamer who never really gamed on a PC, but i think people need eye exams. I notice a difference, and i know a lot of other people do too. Take Borderlands 2 for example. On PC, put it on 720, it looks just like it would on the 360 or ps3. Then bump it up to 1080. The colors are better looking, the textures are slightly better, the little exclamation marks above quest givers heads have little lines moving through it. It just looks a lot better.

I'm not trying to say that the change is dramatic, but there *is* a difference. I mean if i didn't have my glasses on i wouldn't notice a difference either. So i think people need to get their eyes checked. Either that or they're just in denial and don't want to admit it and keep arguing about it.

And i'm not trying to get all master race here, i just recently started gaming on my PC.

As far as I can tell, only a tiny handful of people actually say this. You make it out to be a huge issue.

Switch between 720 and 1080 on a 32 inch TV and sit on your couch at least 10 feet away and tell us how different it looks. Because that is how most console gamers see the games.

While waiting for a movie, my friend and I sat down and fired up crash bash. At first we were both appalled at how ugly the game was and how low resolution it was.
But about 2 minutes into our second attempt at "n ballism" http://crashbandicoot.wikia.com/wiki/N._Ballism and we were having too much fun to care anymore about the resolution.
Moral of the story, new games just suck so your nit picking resolution.

Some people don't give a crap so they don't bother looking for the extra details.

quit hanging around the console boards. Nobody on the PC boards even talks about 720p.

If you want a serious answer, it's called "sour grapes". Basically it means you are making excuses for why you don't want something. "I can't see the difference so why bother to get 1080p?" = "Those grapes are too high for me to get, they're probably sour anyway."

I thought I read somewhere that anything below 42 inches for a screen size you wont notice a difference between 720 and 1080.... I guess not.

Pixel density mostly only matters based on view distance. As distance increases, our eyes can't distinguish individual pixels. So 720 looks the same as 1080.
Scanlines also screw with our minds causing our brains to fill in the blanks which is why those 480 games on our CRT tvs looked so good back then, and so horrible now.

I noticed a lot of people notice that other people can't notice the difference between 720/1080, 30fps/60fps, so they make a topic to share what they notice.

Here's the thing though, you can't compare 1080 on pc to 720 on a console. It's a stupid comparison that doesn't work because PC 720 already blows console 720 out of the water. Personally I haven't tried this with BL2 but I HIGHLY doubt that at 720 on a PC it would look exactly the same as 360/PS3 as TC claims
