Only Problem With PC Gaming

#51dunkisPosted 8/18/2014 11:05:39 AM
I'm interested in in-house streaming. I'll set up a simple HTPC on my TV to stream from my desktop for when I do feel like being in the living room and/or playing with friends. I'm not saying consoles are useless, but their merits are quickly wearing thin with each generation.

I used to be a pc gamer, but recently only had time to be a console gamer because if im out all day, driving far with friends, restaurents, playing football, tennis, gym, I come home and I just wanna sit down relax and play. Its easy grab the ps3/4 controller, press one button, turn on tv and boom your in. Relax with a big tv etc.

But I remember with pc gaming I would always have a 24-27 inch monitor, and be 'glued' to my desk with keyboard and mouse combo. And I actually prefer playing games like gta on PC because mouse is so much more accurate but its just that sitting in a chair on a desk thing that just putting me of.

But regardless I will do a crazy build i7 + either titan or gtx 780, no water cooling because thats just too long. But it sounds so depressing being tied to the desk.

Thought I'd add its interesting that people debate over keyboard mouse vs game pad BUT different games require different controllers. I never have and never will play fps game on a console, I dont understand how one can use two analogue sticks to play it, moving from one side to another takes ages, plus its so hard to be accurate.

Also games like racing, I cannot use keyboard of game pad because they both feel crap. Im a driving enthusiast, I drive a bmw in real life and like to do drifting and street racing (legally), Without a steering wheel, I dont understand how it can be enjoyable.

I never understand people who complain about having to sit at a desk.

I have my gaming PC connected to my big screen and my surround sound. I use a wireless logitec keyboard with a track pad to do normal things like browsing the internet, watching videos, etc. For gaming I use a 360 controller as well as a mouse and keyboard set up and while I agree input lag is an issue for wireless devices, its not really that bad considering you can get USB extenders like I use.

I can easily sit comfortably and use a M+KB set up thanks to the USB extenders.

Here's the thing.

Xbox 360 and PS3 controllers can both connect wirelessly, or wired, to a PC.

HDMI cables can be quite long, and even wireless HDMI exists, though a little costly.

Wireless keyboards with mousepads on them, can be used to navigate anything that the controllers can't.

Therefore, you can in fact, kick back on the couch, with a controller, and start up your game with maybe 30 seconds more effort using the keyboard.

Run HDMI cable from GPU out to TV in.

Get wireless KB+M and/or joypad.

You are now PC gaming on your big TV from your couch.

There you go, TC, now you can close the topic.

You want an easy way to use a K+M on your couch? How about a fold out coffee table?

Neat, but positioned like that, you still have to lean forward to play. Can't lay back and actually relax on the couch that way. Lapdesk is about the only way to do that.

Slide the table closer? Get one that reaches further? Did you really think that's the only coffee table that folds out?

Of course not, but at some point, you have to consider things like stability, leg room (can only scoot it so close), practicality, etc.

Like I said, it's a cool idea, and looks nice, but I don't think it would satisfy most of the "I want to game comfortably from my couch" crowd. That's all.

You know, what I find so stupid about all these "PC gaming sucks because" troll topics isn't so much that they all claim ignorant things like not being able to game from the couch... What I find stupid is that these days, the people making the topics claim to not be anti-PC, claim to be PC gamers, etc. As though those comments might somehow lend a bit more credibility to the absolutely r******* statements they make.

What's that thing in the second link called (the generic name, not the brand name) and how much do they cost.

If a game is truly fun, you should be able to enjoy it even if it doesn't have stat tracking, achievements, good graphics, or a ranking system.

That type of thing is called a lapdesk. That specific one is a Couchmaster. There are a wide range of prices on them, from the tens of dollars into the hundreds. Or you can always custom build your own even. I think that Couchmaster one runs around $140 or so.

After a hard day of standing up and teaching a bunch of braindead teenagers how to do simple math and open a document on a computer, grading, filling out lesson plans, and engaging in petty public education politics, there's nothing I find more relaxing than sitting down in my comfy chair and playing some vidya on my computer. I don't even have to pop in a disk, I just double click an icon and I'm playing.
