downgrade GPU to an EVGA gtx 760.

upgrade cpu to an i5 and compatable motherboard with video card savings

Come October if you want a more powerful video card use the EVGA step up program to upgrade to a gtx 770 then or the 8 series.

I've always been a little unclear on what is compatible with what. I've never really looked into motherboards before.

Id rather go with a 280x. 3gb, 512 bus, and cheaper.

TC I highly recommend putting your build into http://pcpartpicker.com/

More people will look and comment. Plus it is easier to see where things are cheaper.

It'll also do compatibility checks for you (though it isn't perfect).

I highly recommend this as well, don't spend three times as much on your gpu as on your CPU, especially not with a motherboard with no upgrade path. Current intel boards will be compatible with broadwell parts. AM3+ is pretty much dead and an 8320/50 isn't going to offer much more than a 6300.
Every time I try to go where I really wanna be it's already where I am, 'cuz I'm already there

doesn't look like a complete system, but as far as what's posted, the psu is not good, both for the price and in general. the case is just bad for $70. you could certainly make a better value pick for the gpu. R9 280X for $50 less for example. even a gtx760 for $80 less. the motherboard is ok for the cpu you chose. it's not gonna do for one of the 8 core FX, but I wouldn't advise one of those anyway.
