I would love remastered versions of PC games, but sometimes mods can do it for you.

Like I would love a Half Life remaster kinda like Halo for 360, but then modders are already working on the Black Mesa, even though its not done yet entirely.

"Remastering" on consoles is a misnomer, and usually just means "we increased the resolution."

PC games can do that out of the box, making it the whole concept pointless. It would be like selling milk to dairy farmers.

They can consist of upping the frame to 60 and also using higher quality models and backgrounds. So it's not just upping the resolution.

I agree though if all they do is upgrade the resolution they shouldn't call it a remaster and just not bother.

In the case of OoT, they just increased the damn framerate.

Yup, just the framerate.

60FPS is another feature standard on PC games. And higher quality models and backgrounds are uncommon.

Care to back that second one up, with updated assets being uncommon in games that are specifically called remasters? 60fps isn't even something that should be listed as a "feature" since it depends on hardware and only really applies to ports to another console. 60FPS is a standard option for PC games.

What are they going to offer with the remaster? Higher polygon count? At the point where it's something modders didn't already do themselves if they cared to, it would have to be a complete remake, and that just isn't common for PC games. They tend to age well enough, even Doom is still very playable.

Here's a list of them:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High-definition_remasters_for_PlayStation_consoles

To my knowledge, not one of the games in the first list has significantly updated assets. A few in the "other" list do, but most of them are ground-up remakes.

You're really just rewording my point here. Either way you word it, 60FPS would not be a selling point for "remastered" games on PC, because PC games are typically capable of that out of the box.

If you mean the first list of games as a table off hand FFX/FFX-2 HD is in fact upgraded, especially FFX.

Yes it was just a rewording so I was kind of agreeing with you on that one, on the FPS. Sometimes I see people list resolution and FPS as "technology" when it's not... I cranked Descent II up to 800x600 (with the game warning me no current computer could handle it) and watched the slideshow that took place back in the day (and oogled at the "ultra-realistic robots")... its just a matter of the hardware being able to actually handle it with the game being played, which some don't seem to understand (especially when 16:9 is listed as a "technology").

typically a "remaster" on a console is an upgrade in resolution due to better hardware, a possible increase in FPS but not always, perhaps some bug fixing that never got done for whatever reason, and possibly some new content but chances are that isn't the case or it's DLC.

With PC, we want to get higher resolution we can crank up the settings typically, unless the thing is FPS locked that may not be an issue, bug fixing is either taken care of by modders in the form of unofficial patches or an official patch, and new content well we can get that without a "remastered" version.

There is limited need for them aside from ports to a different OS kernel.

You will find some on GOG.com though.
