Is there any Space Simulator you'd recommend?

I've played Free Space 2 and Star Lancer, but I believe there aren't many new games of this genre out there. Outside contributing to Vega Strike and source porting Free Space 2, focus on this genre seems to have shifted. Now that plug and play analog controllers are a fine replacement to a joystick and keyboard, we could be getting more of these.

I really like the Starfield screen saver, aside from nebulas, planets, and pretty much everything in the cosmos, it does a good job of simulating space.

I usually turn that up to max stars, full speed, and then just kind place my face next to the screen... what a rush.

on topic, there was an old old game named I-war, and I absolutely loved the hell out of the game.

Freespace 2 was pretty much the last shining example of the genre.

The X series has been around since then, but I've never really liked them; they've always felt a little bit janky to me.

If you don't mind dealing with older graphics, you might check out the X-wing / TIE Fighter series, or Wing Commander.

X3 is a solid space sim game with plenty of ships, trading and fighting. Terran Conflict and Albion Prelude are better than average too (they're x3 standalone expansions). Stay away from X: Rebirth for the love of God... awful sequel in every way.

If you do play x3 make sure to install the cockpit mod, it is well worth it!
