Is the Aeron chair really worth 800 dollars?

#11RheygarPosted 8/19/2014 10:38:06 AM
I have an Aeron and think it's great. I got a great deal for it so I didn't have to pay the anywhere near the $900+ it can cost up to with upgrades, but I think it's worth that price as I was ready to grab one already. They are very comfy and will last you forever as well. Just make sure you get the right size.

Most chairs you buy at places like best buy/costco/etc are ergonomic nightmares that will screw your back up over time. The 2-3 "pricey" chairs are more health things than style or comfort, and well worth it. Just keep an eye out for sales and get them for half off or something, like any good PC gamer.

<_<

... I only spent like $400 on my racing cockpit.. With adjustable seat, keyboard/mouse tray, monitor mount, and obligatory wheel/pedal/shifter mounts.

The last like 4 computer chairs I bought were under $20 at auctions/Craigslist/knowing people that just didn't need them. They were all good to decent chairs too... Maybe I have low standards, but $800 sounds bonkers to me.

They use these chairs where I work. You probably wouldn't notice the difference between this chair and say a $50-100 chair. Where you feel it is a few hours down the road. At work, it's great since I can spend 4-8 hours each day in it. At home, where I'm only sitting in my chair for maybe 2-3 hours at a time, it makes less sense.

They also come with a ton of bells and whistles like adjustable height arm rests, adjustable height and depth lumbar support, adjustable height and angle head rest, lock the recline at any angle, and the the standard features as well.

This board makes me confused. I agree with you and pretty much everyone in this topic that 800 dollars sounds insane, but literally every other PC forum I go to is obsessed with the Aeron. After seeing it mentioned dozens and dozens of times I was beginning to think that maybe I was just a cheap skate or something and that everyone was sitting in thousand dollar chairs O_o

I'm interested in the Aeron, too. I have a $200 leather chair that's about 2 years old now, and I really want a new one.

Forums dedicated to people who have lots of disposable income to drop on the latest and greatest in electronic toys tend to be populated by people who have lots of disposable income. An $800 chair isn't that bad if you're raking in several times that per month.

It's probably a similar philosophy as buying a bed.

If you're going to be resting in it for upwards of eight hours in a day, you'd be better off investing as much as you can.

Used to have them for work... They're nice and can last for several hours comfortably... But for personal use not worth it. Also, they tend to break easy in our 'work conditions'. I think the longest one lasted was 2 years.

But if you're going to be sitting in it for at least 30 hours a week, go for it, just don't rough house in them.
