Is the Aeron chair really worth 800 dollars?

Third option - We have one at my job, I've sat in it and it's comfortable, but it's certainly not worth $800. I wouldn't go so far as to say no chair is worth $800. Think of how much time you spend in it, a great chair can be worth it. This just isn't one of those chairs.

Well considering it's actually like $550 right now, would you say it's worth that? :P

Where is it $800? It's like $580 right now here:

That said, it probably is better construction and materials than cheaper mesh chairs, but I'm betting a good portion of the cost is just for the name.

I have a similar chair I got from Office Depot for $250... currently selling at around $330. It's the most comfortable office chair I've used, and even after 3 years or so, there are virtually no signs of wear - armrests, seat, everything is just as good and just as comfortable as the day I got it.

I'm guessing they looked for the highest priced one (because how are you going to shock anyone if you don't aim for the top?)

There is $899... so I guess they didn't aim for the top after all...

That one is almost $1000...

I have one at work and I don't feel like it is anything special. Probably better than sitting on PVC all day though.

Almost everywhere.

It's on sale on that site you linked, but they are almost always 750 - 900 dollars. Even used they are usually 500+

No I didn't, why would I be trying to shock people? I said I was considering buying one myself, but the price was just too much to swallow. It's literally an 800 dollar chair, it's almost always 800 everywhere I'm pretty surprised Truffle found it for less than 600 new, that's not quite as heavy of a blow to the wallet but it's still extremely expensive all at once

Yeah, I tend to hunt for deals - especially on more expensive stuff. Buying at full price when sales are available is just silly.

I can see spending ~$500 on a chair. I spent like $450 on the chair I have now and that was like seven years ago. It's showing some signs of wear but the padding isn't compressed or anything so it's still going strong. For $800 it better be damn comfortable or last me at least ten years.

I can't fathom spending more than $100 on a chair.

Whereas I have a hard time imagining spending that little on a chair ever again (unless it's a crazy clearance discount sale or something.

I've used a lot of sub-$100 chairs, and they just plain sucked. They're not comfortable, they don't last for any reasonable amount of time... They're bad. If you're going to spend a hell of a lot of time sitting in it, why not invest in something that will be as comfortable and supportive as possible and last?

I guess i'm weird when it comes to PC gaming. Although it's mainly due to previous injuries from sports, I absolutely HATE sitting in a chair when gaming for long periods at a time. Becomes unbelievably uncomfortable and painful, which is why i'm usually on my couch or bed. Don't get me wrong, chairs are fine if i'm only playing for a short amount of time, but anything more than a hour or so, i'm heading to the couch or my bed. I'd spend $100ish at max on a chair, but only because I won't be using it all that much.

EDIT: I guess I get spending a ton on a chair if you're gonna spend a lot of time on it, just as I would obviously want a nice couch because I do a majority of my gaming on it.
