Long story short, Spare 7970 ghz that i would love to use in crossfire is sitting around because of my PSU only being 650w. Would it be worth Dropping the $230 on a Seasonic X1250? Current PSU is the Seasonic X650.

Nah, something like a 750w - 850w Seasonic will do just fine.

For the what $50 difference, i would rather leave room for later should i want to grab something like a pair of 290x/780/880's

It's massive overkill for a two card setup. A quality 850W unit like the EVGA Supernova 850 G2 would serve you fine.

Those power draws are kind of impressive...

You're greatly overestimating the power draws of dual cards. ^_^

if your psu isn't some peak rated or junk unit it is actually fine for that setup.

So, say a 850W PSU could power a pair of 290x/780s?

I'm sure it would.

As long as it isn't a junk unit. I don't think Seasonic makes junk.
