So long story short, Dont bother with 1250W unless i do something like Quadfire 290x?

Edit: Student living with parents, Dont have to worry to much about electricity bills.

Why don't you have to worry about electricity?

Oh, because you don't pay for it. Sounds like a great kid.

Yes.

But never do quad GPU anyways. The performance scaling is terrible.

Two graphics cards will scale roughly 90 - 100% depending on game engine and drivers. (Roughly double FPS)

The percentage goes down as you add more cards, but you're always paying full price for the cards. Diminishing returns.

Didnt really plan on doing Quadfire, was just an example.

Bit of that, Also i only have it on while im actually using it, so its not drawing Power 24/7 like some people do.

With video card power consumption going down that 1200 watt beast is probably completely uneeded unless your going to used 3 cards.

More like 4 than 3.

I'm sure it would.

As long as it isn't a junk unit. I don't think Seasonic makes junk.

From what i've heard, Seasonics are some of the better/best PSU out there.

Yes, but too many people make the mistake of buying Seasonic or Corsair because of hype. Currently, the EVGA Supernova G2 or P2 units have Seasonic beat in every performance category from ~750 to ~1200W, and they're often cheaper, too. Pretty sure $230 also gets you a Supernova P2 1200W, which is a better PSU than a Seasonic X-1250.

Just checked them out, Can get an 850w Supernova g2 for $139 + $30 Mail in rebate, or for $199 with same rebate could get a 1300w one, or $169 + Rebate for a 1000w.

If i need to get a new PSU, ill likely grab one of them.

For the record, a good 850W is fine for a pair of 290X or 780 Ti. I wouldn't worry about nVidia's 800 series, I doubt it'll be different in terms of power consumption. Generally speaking, video card power consumption is pretty stable these days, the current top-end single-GPU cards are good representations of the kind of power consumption you can expect at the far end of the spectrum.

The only reason I'd ever think about getting a 1000+ watt PSU (and it'd have to be platinum rated for me to consider it at that price range) is if I was going for a really quiet computer and didn't want the fan of the PSU to turn on even when I'm using the most of what my parts would be drawing.

The only time that wattage is necessary is in custom water builds with 3 or 4 GPU's.
