Planetside 2 is an MMO. Which is.....kinda in the title.

I'm confused. What makes Planetside an MMO?

It's massive, multiplayer, and online. Aside from the obvious, it's made by SOE, who seems to only make MMO's, and they basically advertise it as an MMOFPS.

the fact it is an MMO?

Massively Multiplayer Online...

Planetside while the Massive is debatable especially now, it isn't exactly a single player or offline game.

First of all, let me preface this. I'm not trying to get into an argument. I'm confused, and wish not to be.

Ok, but can you elaborate on this please? There's a lot of games that are absolutely huge, and multi-player only, but aren't mmorpgs.

Like what?

Planetside 2 is in a huge, persistent world with a massive amount of players and online. How is it not an MMO?

What other games are you thinking of that could be classified as MMOs?

It refers to many players, ostensibly unrestricted access. Battlefield is certainly a large game, but 64 players on a single server is tiny compared to thousands populating a single play area.

What Cattoy said. MMO's usually have servers with thousands of people on. While I don't know what the population Planetside currently has, they at least aimed to having many many people in one world. It's not round-based like a Battlefield game or something.

Really? how many people can be fighting each other in the same area at once?

In Planetside 2? It's not uncommon to see at least 300 people fighting in the same general area...with more coming in. You might see them all on your screen at once, but they are there - up high in the sky or inside buildings in the distance.
