Is an Alienware worth it?

Yeah, I think I'll get a PC built. Anyone know a site that is in Australia or something? My budget is $1500

Do you think a glowing logo/the brand is worth paying 2-3x what the hardware is worth? If so, go to town.

How much would a good gaming PC be? Like one that can play FFXIV on optimal settings?

You could build an amazing desktop for less than 1,000 dollars, probably less.

You can build a "good" desktop for $800-1000 or so, not "amazing". $1500-2500 will get you "amazing".

Also, I really do need something that's portable as I move houses a lot. So even though a desktop is better could you guys recommend a laptop?

One of my old Co workers bought an alien ware... Soon after replaced to video card... Then the power supply and case... Then the cpu... Then the mother board... Only kept the ram. He's still making payments on the computer too.

Unless you're moving every week, you can just carefully pack up the case in blankets/foam etc. and it should be reasonably well protected. I say this because there's a decent gulf in capability between a $1500 laptop and a $1500 desktop, and unless you truly need the portability (constant business travel etc.) it's not worth it from a price/performance perspective. Then there's the fact that laptops have limited upgradeability, and a year or two down the line when the GPU is nearly obsolete/not meeting your performance expectations, you'll need to replace the whole laptop if you want to keep playing modern games

Alienware is over priced and you get a way lower end GPU for what you are paying for. My frined spent $2500 on a desktop and sure it had a nice I7, 32GB of ram, a fancy tower... but it had a GTX 660 for a GPU.

My PC smokes his and costs half of what he payed for it.

In other words don't waste your money on it. even if your supper lazy and don't want to learn how to build it , you could still buy all the parts and pay some one to build it for you and still be way better and cheaper.

The 660 is a decent GPU, I still high/max most games at 1080p, but yeah, for $2500 you should expect more. It's a midrange card.
