Any real reason to get Windows 8 over windows 7 if...

I do not have a touch screen and I do not care for the interface.

I know i can get the start button back etc but looking for any real advantages over W7. The laptop I'll be using mostly used for work, multitasking excel, word, powerpoint, video / audio editing software, and a few other programs or for gaming in hotel rooms.

I already have Windows 7 ultimate, but work is paying for a secondary Laptop for me. The $80 I'd save by not getting W8 would get me either 16gb of ram over 12gb of ram or a 250gb Solid State Drive over a 120GB Solid State Drive. Neither of which makes or breaks my build.

Going under budget doesn't benefit me at all so I'm just trying to get as close to my max budget as possible.

For reference this is the build I'm getting less W8 and the possible above changes:

Sager 15.6" 1080p
4th Generation Intel® Haswell Core™ i7-4810MQ (2.8GHz - 3.8GHz, 6MB)
12GB DDR3 1600MHz
GTX 870M (6.0GB)
120GB Crucial M500 mSATA SSD
1TB 7200RPM [SATA II - 3GB/s]
8X Super Multi DVDRW/CDRW Combo Drive

Only looking for advantages on operating system selection for my current needs, not build advice :p

Well your PC boots up twice as fast and if you're a gamer some games run 15-20% better in w8 than w7. Those are the two best reasons for 8 over 7.

While I am primarily a PC gamer, this laptop is used for work more than gaming.

Examples / sources for game performance increases in W8?

Not any real advantage or disadvantage depending on interface preference.

Stick with what you like.

It starts up instantly on an SSD.

On my PC its 3 seconds from the loading Windows screen to the desktop, fully loaded, waiting for you to click on something and it instantly starts up.

Well, Saints Row 2, for starters, have some speed bugs that are present on Windows Vista and 7, but are not on Windows 8. Also, the game lags a LOT less on 8.

Batman: Arkham City seems to run a BIT better on 8 than 7 on the same PC (I have both OSs installed). I also got a few more FPS on Skyrim. Still, by more FPS, I mean something like 3 or so FPS. Not a huge increase, if I say so.

OnSaints Row 4, however, I got almost 10 FPS higher on 8 than 7, and the same increase I've noticed on Far Cry 3, both on DX10/11 mode.

Still, some games actually run worse. The Witcher 2 lost some FPS and lags a bit more on 8, and Sleeping Dogs doesn't even work.

I'll probably get the bigger SSD instead of 8 then. If its just minor increase and decreases in game performance I don't see the need to change.

If there were bigger features in the OS it might sway me.

That's because W8 doesn't shut down when you tell it to shut down. It goes into hibernation. Do a restart, which actually causes your computer to do a full boot cycle, and it won't be fast at all. Unless you have your OS on a SSD.
