Hdmi to component converter, what to look out for?

I have a old crt tv with component, seems to be at least 720p though I seemingly can output 1080p on my dvd player.

I want to use my pc with it, I tried a vga to component cable and despite the tv recognising the screen I got no picture.

So I just want something to change a dvi output(well I can get a dvi to hdmi adapter I assume) to component.

I do not want any signal loss though or lag i.e I want the picture to be as close to as if the card natively supported component out.

Is this possible for a reasonable price? I see convertors for around the 30 mark but seem to be from China.
