Stupid question about Steam..

#1Tyler_NinjaCatPosted 8/30/2014 6:28:19 PM
Hey everyone just wanting to know if I can download a game through steam on a friends computer and put it on mine would it be able to work (if I log into steam with my account that bought it) or does it have to be on the original computer it downloaded to? (I have really bad internet so downloading a game would take a long time for me)

If you download it using his account and you own the game it will work on your account just fine.

If your steam account has the game on it, and your friend's steam account has the game on it, then you can just copy the files over and it should quickly install/validate the files instead of having to download it yourself.

Obviously you can't copy the files to a steam account that doesn't own the game and expect it to work, but as long as your account has the game it'll work.

I think it would be as simple as copying the game's folder from the Steamapps folder on your friend's computer onto a flash drive, then putting that in your computer's steamapps folder, then clicking Install on your PC (where it'd start the process and realize you have the files). There's also the backup utility steam has.

thanks so much for the quick replies.
I was thinking of getting Driver Parallel lines (I loved that game when I was younger so I'm gonna buy it)

I have done this and can confirm that it works.
