What are the best bang for your buck 140 mm case fans?

#1Emperor_ArghosPosted 9/1/2014 5:02:38 PM
I just bought a new case, a H630 and was thinking of getting a few more 140mm case fans for it. Which ones should I get?

Thanx

You really shouldn't use 140mm fans as they don't have the airflow 120mm fans do.

For 120mm, get Aerocool Sharks for case fans, or Scythe Gentle Typhoons for radiator fans.

They don't lead the pack like everyone claims, though they are up there. They do however look terrible with that poop-brown and beige color scheme.

I always thought it was their low noise combined with top shelf performance that was great, not their raw performance, though I'd be surprised if the Industrials aren't at the top of the class, not to mention black.

They have roughly equivalent performance/noise ratios to top offerings from other companies (most notably Phanteks and to a lesser extent Thermalright) that don't look hideous.

You can compare the performance to noise ratio of various fans at Martin's liquid labs. Noctua's are up there, but they don't beat out other fans in performance/noise ratio. For radiators, Scythe Gentle Typhoons (don't remember the name, I think AP-15, it's the ~1800ish RPM ones). For case fans it's a much more open field, but I prefer Aerocool's Shark fans myself.

First, 140mm fans are a waste. I can't think of one advantage they have over a 120mm fan. Second, are you looking for a fan that will move air or a fan that you can barely hear? I can't recommend "silent" fans because I wouldn't spend money on something that pushes no air, but if you want something that will actually cool your components, San Ace is a good brand (preferably the 109R1212H1011). Scythe is also good stuff. I have several Ultra Kaze and Slip Stream fans and they haven't disappointed. If you want something for comedic value, get a Delta fan. It'll cool your components like nothing else out there, at the expense of sounding like a jet engine.
