Custom/Duty/Tax Fees for Buying Laptop from German Website

#1rfiiPosted 9/1/2014 6:01:55 PM
I've been trying to buy a Asus UX303LN, but seems like the USA models have a bad screen so I want to buy the German version which is matte and non-touch. Computeruniverse.net ships to the US but I couldnt find any information about whether US customs would charge be import fees/tax/duty for this purchase...

Anyone have any experience buying laptops from foreign websites? (Note: Going physically abroad and bringing it back in your suitcase is effectively different, albeit perhaps not legally different, so experiences with that are not helpful to me)

Thanks for any experiences people can share

The only thing I've ever imported had a customs fee of about 10%. I don't know if it was a flat fee by weight or a percentage by value, but for example a $2000 laptop could end up with a fee of $200, in which case I'd say just find a laptop where the screen isn't flawed and buy that one.

What was being imported in your case? Anyone have experience with a laptop?
