Wow, and I thought they were being subtle about profiting from this.

We have moved past Zoe a long time ago.

Adam Baldwin on Twitter was the one who coined the term. It wasn't some random gamer on Twitter doing that. It just took off from there, and since a week and a half ago this expanded to far beyond just the things going on with Zoe Quinn.

...its like no one knows their history anymore... the whole watergate scandal went way beyond raiding a hotel room. that was just the initial event that started it, just like the zoey quinn thing was the event that started all of this pointless noise. adam baldwin (i have no idea who this is, is he related to the racist baldwin sibling?) just didn't want to use her name i guess.

either way it doesn't answer my question.

...why does every 'scandal' since Nixon seem to have to include the word gate in it? and on that note, wouldn't zoeygate make more sense?

Because thats where the term derives from? The problem is what happens when there's a scandal involving water?

Because it's catchier. Also, It's not about her anymore so it would be dumb to name it after her, even if it isn't 'accurate' to the Watergate naming scheme.

Adam Baldwin = Animal Mother from FMJ, Jayne Cobb from Firefly, voiced Kal'Reegar from Mass Effect, etc.

Anyway, I disputed the moderation and just got a non-answer on why it was considered off-topic. "If a topic is deleted, kindly refrain from reposting it." Ya. Thanks.

"Dear fellow cutie,
There is a theory you might not be familiar with that has been circulating the gamer community for quite some time: that some people have the desire to KILL VIDEO GAMES. If you're unaware of how to determine who might be killing video games, I've started a list for you.
People Who Are Attempting to Kill Video Games, by Felix
-developers of games about "feelings"
-developers of "walking simulators"
-developers who support the developers making these types of games
-people who write about games
-people who like pixel art
-anyone in AAA who makes any change to any AAA FPS
-feminists
-"casuals"
-people working to make games more accessible to those with disabilities
-i'm not even kidding on that last one
-mobile game developers
-good writers
-minorities
-many, many more
Essentially, it's becoming more and more apparent to me that we are, as developers and friends of developers, constantly killing video games. And then it dawned on me:
I'm into it.
If I'm killing video games, I may as well own it, and look cute doing it. So we made a shirt - so that cuties everywhere can tell the world...
~~We are killing videogames~~
Hope this helps,
Maya Felix "

The problem is that mentioning Zoe Quinn automatically derails the issue with one side calling the other misogynous and the other replying with death threats to women. If we want any kind of debate about journalistic integrity and the indie scene, it's best to avoid that.

As to your question:

I thought you knew your history? Watergate? It's a lot easier than saying "the ... scandal"

Or if there's another scandal involving watergate complex.

Because probably the mods were on auto-pilot (as always) and didn't find PC anywhere in the topic.

This is most likely why. The way this topic is phrased has much more to do with games journalism, which is really more a topic for NGG. Since so much of this revolves around PC gaming, I figure it's fine to keep it up. But you really want to keep it in terms of how it relates to the PC community. When some of these threads turn into multiple pages of tabloid gossip and tangents about sex and 'SJWs', and the OP has next to nothing to do with PC gaming specifically, that's why they tend to get deleted.

If I made a topic like this, the first thing I would do is stress all of the PC relevant aspects, like that the scandal started because of a PC game review which rocked naive gamers to their very core and shook their trust in the world of the assumed-incorruptible video games journalism industry. I believed in you, Kotaku! Next someone will tell me I can't believe in gawker or entertainment tonight in this world gone mad.
