I'm going to say... Rollercoaster Tycoon. The original.

It's a game that represents "PC gaming" to me and is very nostalgic.

I know this is going to sound weird but World of Warcraft. When the game came out it almost single highhandedly kept PC gaming in the mainstream eye and for a few years was a real cultural phenomenon.

I mean around the time the 360/PS3 came out the PC was in the absolute dark ages of nefarious, anti-consumer, virus like DRM and WoW kept PC gaming from being forgotten as a viable gaming platform. It kept it relevant long enough for stuff like Steam to gain traction. For a long time the easy answer to "why should I bother gaming on a PC?" was "world of warcraft is awesome and you can't get anything like it anywhere but PC".

I know stuff like Half life 2 came out during the same time period but half life 2 was only popular for a moment in history while WoW persisted and got bigger and bigger until about 2010 and was ever present in the conversation of gaming at large during 2004-2010. No other PC game exclusive can really say that during those years when most news about PC gaming was about how awful the DRM was on any particular game week in and week out.

This is the correct answer.

I'd forgotten about how terrible DRM was back then.

True fans of the series will remember the short lived VIP, and ESCAPE modes,
I honestly miss VIP.
I even kind of miss those stupid aim-hack podbots- but only just a little. They would cheat and talk ****, it was kind of endearing.

Such as Nintendo for making a shrewd decision that had nothing to do with saving and everything to do with profiteering back in the 80's.

It's adequately rated if not overated.
