Never used steam before-- Not connected to internet?

#1dinoguy6Posted 9/3/2014 4:12:36 PM
So I got skyrim, I'm trying to install it but I have to go through steam, my problem is after I created my account, and downloaded the steam program, it says I'm not connected to the internet so steam won't update. I'm probably never going to use steam again, as i didn't have to for any other TES game, but I don't know how to get it to install Skyrim. It is trying to update (Steam not Skyrim) and the Fatal Error occurs. Any help?

I disabled my firewall and Norton says steam isn't blocked. I also tried the whole delete all files except blah blah... And the update got halfway through then the same error popped up. (That was frustrating as my internet is slow and that took almost 45 minuets)

Steam doesn't like to play nice with slow internet, unfortunately

Just about the only thing I could suggest would be to find a friend who has the game and copy his game files into your steamapps/common folder (where your skyrim folder should be). Then steam would have to verify the cache to make sure that all the game files are there and when that happens it should be installed... it still requires the internet for that though.

I think his problem is that Steam won't complete updating and actually launch. Best thing I can recommend is try doing it during low traffic hours, like the middle of the night.

is it set to download stuff from close to you? should be in the settings

Sounds like an internet connection problem rather than steam.

How slow is your internet exactly? Can you run something like on a server close to you?

If steam has created a clientregistry.blob you can try to delete that.
