Guy proves Hearthstone is broken, promises not to ruin it for everyone else

LOL at sensationalist headline of Hearthstone being "hacked". When someone solves the game, that's not even close to being hacked. Anyways, if I was this guy I don't think I'd be so cool about it. I'd probably hold the information for ransom money. The game is huge for Blizzard right now so it'd be a shame if someone showed how flawed the core gameplay really is...

@pothocket

You would attempt to extort one of the 5 largest video game companies? Good idea

"extort" is a strong word, your honor. I was simply asking to be compensated for my work. Obviously if Blizzard felt that my work had no value, than they wouldn't mind me releasing it to the public for free.

Very good idea. I would ask for 50m to keep my mouth shut. They can easily afford that.

I honestly don't see this as being that big of a deal.

You're approaching it all wrong. You don't *extort* the money from them, you SELL the tool to them.

But yeah... all it really does is handle prediction. The game isn't "hacked" at all - no code is compromised, and the game itself isn't altered in any way. Sure it's a cheating tool of sorts, but in the way that a scientific calculator can be used to cheat on a math test.

Yeah, this. It's like saying that chess or poker was hacked.

Considering how big the game is and how much $$$ is involved, it kinda is a big deal. Now that people know the game is solvable, I guarantee people will try to replicate his work.

I like how he didn't hack anything at all. Its a predictive program. At best, it only hints at how predictive people playing Hearthstone are using the commonly known top decks. (watch top players and you'll see the same decks over and over in ranked play)

In any case, the 2 main points I hold against this:

1- Its not hacking, so the headline is stupid.

2- They can pretend the algorithm is made by god, nobody can tell. There are no proof to its effectiveness. It might not be anywhere near the level he pretends it is, just like he didn't give us any arguments as to how and where it was used.

Just another pretentious and meaningless article.

I'm not seeing how the game has been solved. Predicting what cards are in your opponents deck does not win the game for you. It gives you and advantage for sure, but it's not an insta win the game is broken type of thing by any means.
