A while ago I bought one of those cheap 'street' PSP's and the other day, during a gamedisk swapover, the bugger froze on me...now all I have is a blank dark screen, tho it is powered-up and not totally black....even letting the power drain and re-charging did nada..can I recover this device or am I up for a new one?

I'm not familar with the 1000E, but I'm assuming that you can disassemble it enough to disconnect the battery, then reconnect it for a hard reset.

I'm waiting for Bandai to release the WonderSwan/SwanCrystal II and blow both the Vita and the 3DS away.

If you took out the UMD while it was updating the firmware reading the firmware from the disc, you're f***ed, you bricked it.

Take it back or send it to Sony.

What's the purpose in owning a Grenade Launcher?
The sheer inability to continue life without it ! ! !

Who the hell updates their firmware off the UMD?

If he has got an E1000 he could have just downloaded 6.60 from the playstation website onto a memory stick and installed from that.

You are never going to get the latest version off a UMD. It's no different than using the driver discs that come with printers etc. It's dumb using it when you can always get newer drivers from the manufacturers website.
