|When breeding in FireRed/LeafGreen, up to 2 IVs will be passed down to the child from the parents. The IVs can be from one or both parents, and it is possible for IVs being passed to overlap each other (ex. Mother sends down 31 HP IV, then Father sends down 16 HP IV. Because the game took the Fatherís second, the child will have the Fatherís 16 HP IV over the Motherís 31 HP IV).
To check how compatible your Pokemon are, talk to the Old Man. Depending on what he says, the chance of an Egg being produced can be determined. (Info from Super Creatures)
The two seem to get along very well = Same Pokemon Species and different Original Trainer = ~69.3% chance of an egg being made after 256 steps.
The two seem to get along = Same Pokemon Species and same Original Trainer or Different Pokemon Species and different Original Trainer = ~49.5% chance of an egg being made after 256 steps.
They don't seem to like each other very much = Different Pokemon Species and different Original Trainer = ~19.8% chance of an egg being made after 256 steps.
The two prefer to play with other Pokemon than each other = Not in the same Egg Group, Pokemon is unbreedable, or both Pokemon are the same Gender = 0% chance of an egg being made after 256 steps.
The Flame Body/Magma Armor trick and Everstone trick do not work in FireRed/LeafGreen; they were first introduced in Emerald.
6. Catching Formula
Youíve probably been playing thinking pressing A and B together or Up and B when the Pokeball flies out will improve your chances of catching a Pokemon. Well, the truth is that it does not help at all; it is just a stress reliever. Pokemon is a game of numbers, and when catching Pokemon, it is no different.
This is the Catching Formula.
This is the Catch Rate of all the Pokemon.
This is the Catch rate of all the Pokeballs.
By following the formula and using the info above, you will be able to figure out exactly what the chance of you successfully catching the Pokemon is.
7. Same Type Attack Bonus (STAB)
STAB, an acronym for Same Type Attack Bonus, does what it says; gives a bonus boost to Attacks of the same type of the Pokemon using it. The boost is 1.5x the normal Base Power.
Example: A Wartortle uses the move Surf. Surf normally has a Base Power of 95. Because Surf is a Water type move and Wartortle is a Water type, Surf will have a Base Power of 142.5, rounded down to 142.
Because of such boosts to power, STAB is a very valuable tool to competitive battling and should often be considered when choosing a Pokemonís moves.

http://www.serebii.net/ - Likely the biggest Pokemon info site. Lags when a huge amount of people access the site at once, but very reliable with an easy-to-use interface.
http://www.psypoke.com/ - Another useful site you can use for Pokemon info.
http://www.metalkid.info/ - A very useful site made by MetalKid. His download has a variety of useful tools that will assist both casual and competitive battlers.
If con is the opposite of pro, then what is the opposite of progress?
