I really would've thought the maps were different types of files than character models... The models contain movement and such, while maps should be static, and I'd think it'd be a LOT less memory strain to have them just as non-scaleable surfaces. Odd. But I'd like to see more of this, where are the ones hacked to play as enemies? Whomp FTW!
