Do the boosts to stats after getting a gym badge really take place?

For example, Wattson says his badge will raise the speed of your pokemon. Does that actually take place, or is he bsing?

No one really knows for sure how badges affect stats.

I've always thought that the game would throw a x1.1 modifier at the appropriate stat during the damage calculations, but I'm not really sure where I got that impression.

And if that is what it does, I'm pretty sure it doesn't apply to stuff like Frontier battles. Or maybe your opponent is just assumed to have the badge for the opposing stat.

I swear I remember reading on Bulbapedia somewhere that it's a 10% increase but I can't find it. Either they removed it (because of lack of evidence maybe?) or I'm going insane.

It's an invisible 10% stat boost, as in it will apply when you're in game in battle. You won't see your speed, attack, ect. actually rise by ten percent, and it won't work in wifi/link battles either. It's only for in game purposes, but yes, it does happen

Okay, so I tested it with speed, since that's the easiest, though I don't see why it would be any different for any other stat.

There's a trainer outside mauville who leads with a zigzagoon. By catching a bunch of electrikes, and seeing which one he speed-tied with, I figured out he had 21 speed.

After the badge, pokemon with 20 speed would outspeed him every time, but things with 19 speed would never outspeed. Based on that, I think everyone else here is correct and it really is a 10% increase

I suppose you wouldn't be able to check if it works or not in the Battle Frontier using your method then since you need to have all of the badges already to go there. Not without hacking at least. I have a strong feeling that it wouldn't work there anyway though.
