Xbox 360 Wired Controller troubles

#1TheMoonman1Posted 7/8/2009 3:47:09 AM
I tried out the demo on Steamyesterday, and it works fine, except for one thing: When I mapped the camera controls from the L and R triggers to the right stick on my Xbox 360 Wired controller, I found that I couldn't use the triggers for anything else. I wanted to map them to the PSI Powers.

Is there any way around this? I've been thinking of grabbing a Logitech gaming pad (this one: http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/ga...s/288&cl=us,en) to over come this, but I'm starting to think that wouldn't work...would it? And if not, is there any other solution?

I'm not sure I understand "mapped the camera controls from the L and R triggers to the right stick".

Barry Scott Will's Psychonauts walkthrough for the PC describes the default controls for both gamepad and keyboard+mouse.

According to him the right stick defaults to the camera control. Are you setting the left and right triggers to control the camera? If so, I doubt any gamepad would let you map those to another function as well.

When I loaded up the demo, the left and right triggers were the default camera controls. Left trigger moved the camera left, the right trigger moved the camera right, obviously there wasn't any vertical control, so I changed the camera controls to the right stick.

The problem is I can't seem to use the left and right triggers for anything else now. I wanted to set them to the PSI powers, but the triggers don't seem to map to anything else but the camera controls.

(I hope I'm a bit clearer this time...)

That sounds like the demo has native support for game controllers, but with a strange default configuration. It also seems to have trouble using the triggers for anything but the camera.

There also might be that there are two different mappings going on when you use the controller.
- The native mapping supported by the demo.
- Whatever software driver you're using with the controller. Either 3rd party or built-in to Windows.

If there are two configuration programs fighting it out, that might explain this behavior. If you're just using the in-game controller configuration setup, then maybe a 3rd party configuration routine might help.
