Alt-Tab?

Is it possible to minimize without crashing Oblivion? It's quite annoying... =/

the only reliable way i've found is to play in windowed mode, but that kills the whole experience.

I don't know why, but it often works for me if I alt tab into the magicka spell list.

I just got oblivion and I had the same problem before when i was loading up FCOM, but i fixed it.

Exactly what OS are you using? XP or vista? also, do you have any mods running?

open up the console command first by hitting the "~" key. You will NEVER crash when alt tabbing as long as the console line is open, even in full screen mode.

Little trick I learned.

Really?! I'm going to try that in a bit. I was so pissed off, because this is the only game I can't minimize.

There is a tab on your screen that says "FAQs". Click it.

Hmm, still doesn't work for me. Does the same thing it always has. I'll bring the game back up and it freezes. The music still plays, and I can bring up the console, but other than that I can't do anything.

You can ALT+TAB without crashing just for a few seconds. If you keep the game minimized for longer, it will crash.

I read this somewhere:

If you alt-tab out and want to tab back in later, open up your task manager (ctrl, alt, del) and then go to applications tab and right click on Oblivion and hit "switch to". That should tab you back in w/o it crashing.

I can't say it works 100% for 1 big reason - when I tab out and tab back in normally it barely ever crashes for me. It has never crashed using that switch to method either, so that isn't saying much since it barely ever does anyways. You can try it though.
