Another 1H/Shield vs 2H

#1RaumeriaPosted 9/5/2009 3:52:13 PM
Yes, 1H sword/Shield is preferred for Heroes, what with Brandish and all, but about how "funded" do you think one has to be to go 1H/Shield and have damage on par with a 2H sword user?
#2TaiketoPosted 9/5/2009 3:55:11 PM
~20 attack total more is the general answer, though the actual amount changes depending on the rest of your attack and total STR and dex.

I think Brandish has the same amount of reach for both 1H and 2H swords, so it's better to use a 1H plus shield.

Assuming you're referring to Taiketo's post, 2h swords get more damage per point of attack than 1h swords, so you therefore need more attack to compensate..

One Handed Sword - [(STR * 4.0 + DEX) / 100] * Weapon Attack
Two Handed Sword - [(STR * 4.6 + DEX) / 100] * Weapon Attack

Only problem with 1h and shield is shield weapon attack scrolls are expensive as hell, and doing it on maple shields doesn't help you much when you blow them up or fail a lot.

Oh. I was just wondering if I should actually go ahead and spend all my funds on a 16 att shield, except I have -no- idea exactly how good that is. Like, if I could do better by spending money on a 2H (Except if I actually reach 120+, I'll probably go 1h/shield, and if I -do- get the shield then I'll probly keep that forever).

Like Taiketo said, you roughly need 20 more w.att on the 1h sword to equal a 2h sword. For example, you need a 120 w.att 1h sword to equal a 100 w.att 2h sword. Take also into consideration that since you're switching to 1h/shield, you don't need anymore dex since the equips don't require dex.

As Boko stated, the damage equations are:
One Handed Sword - [(STR * 4.0 + DEX) / 100] * Weapon Attack
Two Handed Sword - [(STR * 4.6 + DEX) / 100] * Weapon Attack

To get the same damage, simply equate the two formulas, and multiply the one-handed sword damage side with a multiplier x, which gives us:
x * [(STR * 4.0 + DEX) / 100] * Weapon Attack = [(STR * 4.6 + DEX) / 100] * Weapon Attack
Assume Str, Dex and Weapon Attack are equivalent, and we can cancel them out, which gives us:
x = 4.6/4.0 or x = 1.15
So for your damage per hit with a one handed sword to equal to that of a two handed sword, you'll need a shield that has 15% of your total weapon attack.

That's not true. I think you need minimum of 16 attack shield in order to do more damage per minute (attacks per minute greatly favor certain 1H swords; lunch box) but as Taiketo said, it depends also depends on your STR and DEX
