I wouldn't go for HGSS over either Emerald or Platinum. They're inferior games, and that's okay. For you, Platinum is probably your best bet. For more info...

I strongly urge you to shell out for Emerald and Platinum. I am in the camp that prefers these 'middle-aged' series games over the originals and the fifth gen ones. Here's a little bit more...

If you play Emerald after any of the DS games, it will feel like several steps backwards because it is. I've had much difficulty getting kids to play Emerald because of how dated it now feels on the surface. The battle mechanics had a rather significant change moving into the DS games/fourth generation, as well. Emerald is not worth missing because, and this is where your mileage will vary, it's different from the other regions. Half of Hoenn is water. I find that to be fascinating, and the braille puzzles that can be eventually found made for some fun 'mystery' solving that wasn't present in earlier titles. It's also arguably the most challenging (by Pokemon standards) entry yet, though BW2's Challenge Mode could easily dethrone that. I enjoyed it, but there are plenty of others who didn't in hindsight, mind you.

Even if you pass on Emerald, you must play Platinum, especially if you want postgame content. Black and White do not deliver in this area. Platinum is set in a large region where you can see the seeds of Black and White's storytelling begin to grow, and the main story should keep you busy for a good 15-20hr unless you play too quickly. For postgame, among other things, there are many Legendaries to capture, shiny Pokemon (recolored sprites) that can be easily obtained if that interests you by use of the Pokeradar, and the Battle Frontier which is the ultimate challenge Pokemon has to offer. The original Battle Frontier is in Emerald, and this Battle Frontier is in both Platinum and HGSS.
There is no reason to play Diamond or Pearl first since it is superior to its originals in every way.

Go to Gamestop, buy a Steam card, and use it to purchase Ys Origin. You won't be disappointed.

Listing those things as reasons as for why Platinum is good would be like saying HG/SS are good because you can catch Pokemon

I'm not sure what you're trying to say, but the original post was geared towards someone who wanted a lot to do, and Platinum delivers. There isn't anything HGSS does that Platinum doesn't do EXCEPT for the fact that your lead party Pokemon follows you, which is a gimmicky feature that doesn't contribute much to the overall experience.

I mean that story lasting 15 hours and ability to catch shinies and legendaries aren't exclusive to Platinum, you can do it in all of the games. So listing those things as reasons of why TC should get Platinum is pointless.

At face value, yes, but...the ease of which shinies are obtained in Platinum and the sheer number of legendaries available in Pt compared to the other games make those worth mentioning.

pokeradar hunting isn't exactly easy, yes its a lot less dull than trying to obtain a shiny through any other ( pkm) game but it can also be quite tedious.
