i cant stop the french in treaty games at all. after 40 they can simply spam their cav with a few skirmishers and power through all my units with no tact at all. any pointers?

Counter their units! (Also, treaty is in TWC)

They have Cuir, Goons and Hussars, correct? Pikeman and Halberdiers utterly demolish cavalry. Hand combar musks too, plus Dragoons, Ruyters, Cavalry Archers.

If you build a hard-to-counter combo, you can defeat most armies.

Tell me your civ and maybe I can tell you in more detail how to counter them.

Ive been playing as Portuguese because they were pretty unique but i lost the will to make them work. Im back to using German which makes french seem like an easy win. A strat for Port will still be appreciated tho.

Just do FF, possibly w/ Jaeger if you get him from the saloon, and then boom. DO some early raids to throw strategies off track and use Dragoons to scout. Simple.
