zaphron28, RROD has nothing to do with Live. It is caused by an internal malfunction.

too many pages to look for an answer anyways my son just got the RROD for the 1st time and it's a launch system. I take it it's no longer under warranty for the RROD?

If you bought the console on launch then yes the warranty has expired and I doubt Microsoft extended the 3 years. If not, then I believe the warranty ended on November 22, 2008.

My 360 just started to make my screen go black and flash me two red lights.. what does this mean? Oh yeah its also making 10x the noise it usually makes.
Luckily mine is still covered by the retailers warranty be it only 4 days inside the warranty.

my 360 elite flopped with the ring 10 days ago. 3rd time since launch.

i called microsoft and let holy hell fly at several different people before i finally got a supervisor.

i told the supervisor that i would mod my system and pirate games since they don't care about raping me constantly. he was not very receptive to that line.

however, i got a free wireless controller, viva pinata (greatest hits) and 2 months of live for my troubles.

i'm still pretty stern over this hideousness.

i've never had these kind of problems with any other system that i have ever owned. and this is going all the way back to the atari 2600 in the 70's.

it wouldn't be so bad if the wii bought it (useless dust collector), or possibly the ps3 (not many good games to keep my attention outside of resistance 2 multiplayer).

i am having horde withdrawals here....

Is the 3-year warranty still effective for newly purchased 360s? I thought I heard that the warranty was no longer effective if you purchased your 360 after November of 2008. Is that correct?

Nevermind. I found my answer. Anyway, why did Microsoft end the 3-year extended warranty? Is it because they are certain that the Jaspers will no longer get RROD or at least will get it at an acceptable industry rate?

fascistpunter, "i got a free wireless controller, viva pinata (greatest hits) and 2 months of live for my troubles."

Nicely done, looks like raising a little hell can actually gain some benefits.

Disregard my last post. I didn't realize that the 11/22/08 end date for the extended warranty was for launch systems. I realize that the extended warranty still applies to newly purchased systems.

So to answer my own question, apparently if they replace your XBox they do update your account with the new serial number. Hopefully I'll get it back before the week is out.
