I always assumed it went into more detail in the sequel. I bought both together though never played 2. I got as far as the abandoned department store (chapter 5 I think) in Condemned before I lost interest and started playing something else.

Spoilers for Condemned

Some rage thingies were turning the underprivileged of the city into raving lunatics.

Don't play part two for the story, it retains some of the creepy vibe, but they basically take it to almost dumbest direction possible (if you have played Indigo Prophecy/Fahrenheit you know what I mean).

I rarely pay attention to stories nowadays. Maybe I'm just slow though but I feel like most games have poor story telling. I usually get the gist of it more or less.

Is it true the story is about killer hobos? At least it wasn't about hobos having an underground central intelligence. >____>

Are you talking about the first one or the second one? For the second one the direction they take is SPOILERS Condemned 2

Ancients evil conspiracy!!!! Bonus lame points for it being 3000 years old having seemingly endured more than any empire in history and while having alien quality metallurgy in the freaking Bronze Age. Also mechs and someone built a giant psychic citadel tower in a New Jersey scrap yard.

Additional points are added for the baddie on the first game reappearing after you shot him in the head five times and the back of his head blew off.

Yeah basically it involves homeless people who became homeless because they got bad grades in school because they kept getting addicted to the horde.

Man, I loved Fahrenheit, right up until it went like that. Although the fight scenes looked cool, suddenly going all Matrix-y and mystical, it was just so far removed from the start of the game that I was more than a bit disappointed.
