Xbox Live Arcade Failure

I took a look at some arcade games the other day after not having bought one in years. As I'm going through the list of games I noticed something incredibly unfair.

Almost every single game I bought from Xbox Live Arcade has been updated or seen a sequel making what I bought inferior.

Some of the first games I bought, Geometry Wars, Ultimate Mortal Kombat , Worms Open Warfare, Pac Man Championship Edition, Street Fighter 2, Galaga Legions, and Bionic Commando Rearmed.

So now there is, Geometry Wars 2, Worms Open Warfare 2, Pac Man Championship EX, Super Street Fighter 2 HD Remix, Galaga Legions DX, and Bionic Commando Rearmed 2.

...WHAT THE F******!!

While Ultimate Mortal Kombat remains to be the only game on that list that hasn't seen an upgrade, you may count the retail release of the newest Mortal Kombat.

So, what I get nothing? I am not paying again for an updated version of a game I already have as well as making my previous purchase almost completely worthless and a waste of my money. Basically if I buy the new versions, I have just wasted all the money I spent on their predecessors as they are non-refundable items and will literally be useless for the most part.

I think that's a little unfair that those who bought the original aren't compensated in the least. I would at least accept a discount towards the updated versions which in some cases cost more than the original.

If that's the case, I guess you should be talking about every single sequel ever created.

Nintendo has been using the same IPs, with hardly any big differences between sequels and pretty much doing the same **** after 25 years of gaming.

One Night in Neo Kobe City.
I'm a big fan of fighting games and don't hate or pick sides for either one. They are all good in their own way.

Xbox Live Arcade Failure

Four words that should never be put together.

Welcome to Gamefaqs, where for some reason it's ok to bash Americans continually without fear of penalty. I guess we don't count as people here.

Same thing goes for the people who buy retail games. Especially the COD and Guitar Hero series. Same thing could also be said about Halo, Gears, Final Fantasy, Dead Space, Elder Scrolls, Fallout, Pokemon, Assassin's Creed, any other game series that has sequels/prequels/another entry.

I'm pretty sure each game is unique enough to make it it's own game, and the sequel/prequel just goes and changes gameplay elements in hope for a better game. And if you're really mad about there being sequels, this is definitely the wrong gaming generation to be in, as everything coming about is almost always a sequel, as originality is nowhere to be seen these days.

I get what you're getting at but that is not my complaint. Every company recycles their biggest IP's. I have no problem with that but you can at least return those games for something. They are still actually worth something. Maybe you sell Mario Galaxy 1 to buy Mario Galaxy 2. Maybe you get store credit for Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 so you can purchase Call Of Duty Black Ops.

My purchases? Non-refundable. So say I spent 800 points to buy Pac Man Championship Edition. That's around 6 or 7 dollars. Pac Man Championship Edition DX comes out and is now 1200 (about $10) MS points. Not only does my purchase of DX make it's predecessor practically worthless, it also costs more money. The act of purchasing it immediately means I wasted those 6 or 7 dollars and paid an extra 10 for an updated version.

What I'm getting at is there should be a way to be compensated for these types of purchases. If you bought the first game maybe you get a 15% discount or something. Anything is better than realizing I wasted my money.

Is this really that hard to understand?

I mean, I know I kinda jumped through time here with these fairly old games but that's how long it's been since I bought an Arcade game.

So does that mean Ford should compensate me because the 97 Taurus I bought years ago is identical to the 98 Taurus except with a lesser cup holder?
