best TV for xbox 360? 1080 or 720?

#1AchievmentFreakPosted 7/7/2011 12:05:36 PM
I was going to get a TV, and of course I was aiming for a 1080p, but now I have been reading that TV's look better in 720p for the Xbox 360? Is this true? How is it possible? Can someone please help me? Thank you in advance!

Almost no game for the 360 actually runs natively in 1080P. Many don't even hit 720P. Therefore, having a TV that natively displays a resolution closer to the games native resolution will look better. I know people are going to jump in here and scream and yell that I'm wrong. But for the most part, they're justifying their 1080P sets for the sole reason that it's a bigger number and is therefore "better".

There's no point in buying a 720p TV at this point. Practically all cable providers play content in 1080p now. Blu Rays are in 1080p. The next generation of systems will play in 1080p. You might be happy with 720p for now, but before long you will wish you had just spent the extra money.

Practically all cable providers play content in 1080p now.

As of now, that's only for PPV movies, all of the broadcast stations still use 1080i, or 720p. That said, there's no point going for 720p now. They are slowly being phased out anyways. 360 will upscale all games to 1080p. PS3 is where this would be an issue, as it's 1080p support is spotty at best. And yes, I'm of the opinion it's better to let the 360 do the scaling. As a good number of TV's overscan 720p for some reason.

Okay, thank you so much. But now here are more questions. I am going to use this TV only for my xbox 360 gaming. I read that for the long run, it's best that I buy the 1080p. I think that seems reasonable, so I think I will go for the 1080p because I don't plan on buying another TV until ALONG time! Haha! Thank you so much guys!

^Oh and I forgot to ask, is there anyway I can make the 1080p TV that I will buy run in 720p? Or no? Because I remember setting up my xbox and it said something about that? Just curious! Sorry if I sound stupid! Thank you all in advance!

Just set your 360 to 720p, then to 1080p and see what looks better.

You will probably not even see a difference.

My tv personally looks better on 1080p when it comes to 360.

I recently bought a 1080p set (46" Sharp Aquos Quattron 120 hz LED) and my 360 has never looked better. Like someone else posted, there's not much point in buying a 720p set anymore. It's cheaper (Though not by so much that you should just settle for 720p), but you get what you pay for. 1080p is just a better idea in terms of looking ahead.
