had this problem for a while and thought it was just my xbox 360 arcade console getting old.

but ive just bought a xbox 360 s 250gb, and its just the same.

the problem is, that after playing a game (any game, disk or download) or even viewing zune, the 'games played' page where you can pick from recent downloads and games played plus click on categories for all your indie titles, xbox originals etc... takes 30-45 seconds to actually appear.
all that happens in the meantime is you get the spinning white circle thingy.

is it because ive got loads of arcade titles installed? (about 100 or so)

does it do it for everyone? anyone else have loads and loads of xbla games and the page will display really slowly?

could it be drive fragmentation? can you even get fragmentation on a 360 drive?
can the fragmentation be de-fragged?

Yes, it's an issue, and no, noone knows what it is.

It's not fragmentation because you could have 1 game on your HDD and it would do the same. Try it. Delete everything.

It's a auto defrag.

The console will do this the day you dl just 1 thing.
get used to it.

With out it you would wish it was only 45- 30 seconds long.

What he means without the HD defragment every now and then the load times will be beyond 60seconds thus he'll be wishing for the load times he's getting now.

So by defragmenting it makes load times longer. Huh.
Someone should tell Microsoft to remove that program from their operating systems, it's a hazard to businesses!

auto defrag doesnt make sense because it does it all the time even if you havent downloaded anything for weeks.

id understand and agree if it did it once when you had freshly downloaded something.

but given that it happens with only one game on your machine it cannot be a form of auto defrag. i mean, what is it defragging after its done it twelve times already?

Auto defrag is there because users are way to lazy to defrag on their own.
With out it people eventually would start to complain that their consoles are running poorly over time.

This would be bad business for MS, Sony, or any other company using or going to use HDD.

PC doesn't auto-defrag on it's own because it would constantly take forever.
