How is the 360 on a SDTV?

#1kerplunk47Posted 7/12/2011 10:07:11 PM
I have yet to meet someone who has a 360 but not an HDTV.
Obviously, there will be a decline in picture quality. But will it be so bad that an HDTV is a must?

The only real problem beyond picture quality is that some games are harder to play.

Certain games have text that is practically illegible without high definition picture. Otherwise, an sdtv works fine. The one upside is you can count on zero input lag no matter what, can be important if you play a lot of twitchy games competitively where split-second timing is critical.

360 on a SDTV is passable.

HDTV gives you the full experience. It's not a must, but it's a pre-requisite for playing the game the way they're meant to be played (That is, in the resolution they were made for).

So in short, yeah, you can play on SDTV and it's not that bad. But you're definitely missing out in the graphics department (It's all still there, just hard to make out in SD resolution).

I'm playing it on a Toshiba SDTV. It's not as clear as HD because you can see the lines the tube uses. Still playable though.

I play on a SDTV.
Games look okay on it, but the text in ones like Dead Rising and L.A. Noire are nearly illegible. I've found that Eternal Sonata and the Catherine demo look great on it, though.

I play on both HDTV and SDTV depending on which one is available when I choose to play. I could take another HDTV out of the closet to replace the SD but I really don't feel like putting that much effort in. Anyway...SD is fine. Some games have illegible text (Dead Rising, ME 2 for example). Other games have some screen issues (MW 2) where you can't necessarily see everything, but its fine otherwise.
