protecting account

I was going to upgrade to a new xbox and sell my old one. I am worried about someone recovering the data off my hdd even after its been wiped, specifically my xbox live account. Would changing my account password after setting up my new console remedy this problem?

You're worried that someone will recover the data after the drive has been formatted? I'm not saying that's impossible, but it's unlikely. Changing your password isn't going to hurt though, the only risk there is that you might forget what you changed it to.

I seriously doubt anyone is going to use forensic data recovery tools to get your Live account off of a formatted drive. Doesn't seem worth the effort. If you're super paranoid you could always take the drive out of its case, mount it to a PC, and use something like DBan that will overwrite the whole drive several times.
