It's pretty funny how every third person shooter haves a cover system.

I would say 90% of todays games have a cover system, yet the game that first started it was KillSwitch which was a total flop.
I guess GEARS improved on it and made it really popular, but in the end it plays just like KilSwitch. Granted it was a short little game, but it did what it was meant to do.
It was fun, short and Sweet. I have more fun with older games then GEARS though. It seems it's always the same.

Shoot badies in the face, coming from the front, then left then right, use walkie talkie to load the next level, then repeat over 20X. This seies seems popular for online ad nothing more.

Last Gen we barely saw any third person shooters, yet this gen it's 60% all TPS with cover systems.

Frankly cover systems make sense.

If I was in a gun fight, and my health magically regenerates if I don't get shot every few seconds, I'd be leaning against a wall popping out to shoot rather than standing behind it occasionally sidestepping out to shoot.

I don't think it's funny, I think it's a good system.

I find regenerating health funny (though also I like and support it).

TC, you're awesome for remembering Kill.Switch.
I always shake my head at people who claim that Gears created the cover system.

Anyways I don't mind 3rd person shooters having a cover system, but at the same time it is becoming ridiculous. That Warhammer: Space Marine game doesn't have a cover system and it was actually refreshing to see/play.

I own and love all three current systems!

I had Kill.Switch. Fun little game but Gears is the one that got it right and is the template.

it wasnt a shooter that you just ran around in, you had to plan out your movements because each movement (grappling, jumping, rolling) had a full animation that had to be completed. so playing it well was dependent on timing not twitch reflexes. also i really liked the weapon system, and how everyones weapon load-out could be completly different from everyone elses. imo this gave the game a hell of alot of strategy, unfortunatley the majority of people never took the time to learn how to combat the weapons.
