Or you could buy the official MS dongle, or you could get a 3rd party dongle from Amazon or ebay.
Not a stupid question at all. What would be stupid is if you would choose to use an optical out from the Tv or monitor... that would be stupid because that usually is not going to give you 5.1 audio, but rather only 2 channel simulated surround. (granted the headphones themselves are simulated but it's simulated based on a 5.1 signal, and feeding it a 2 channel signal is just a waste).
