I currently have a wireless turtle beach headset with an optical cable that can only be plugged in with a component cable adapter. I am pretty sure that my xbox is going to crap out soon, so I plan on upgrading to an Xbox slim. What I'm wondering is how does the turtle beach work with an HDMI cord? Does the sound go through the component adapter or does it only go through the HDMI, rendering the turtle beach useless? Thanks in advance.

The slim 360 has an optical port built in. Just plug your TB's directly into that.

I have some TB X11's, and if I remember correctly, they had 3 cords.

1 that went into the 360's USB slot to power it
1 that went into the red/white Audio Out hookups on the back of my TV
1 that went into the 360 controller for the mic

They get audio directly from the TV. Well, mine do, anyway. Newer ones may work differently.

If you are using the component cable adapter and have the xbox connected to your TV with HDMI, you'll have sound coming from both the TV and the headset. All you have to do is turn the volume off on your TV to have sound only coming from the headset.

After rereading TC's post, I realized I completely misunderstood what he was asking.

I misread too, I thought he was trying to hook it up to his current console using HDMI.

TheMuffin is correct, plug directly into the back of the Slim, and like envisionize said you'll get sound out of both.
