Why is my 360 so slow at downloading?

#1AnatomyHorrorPosted 9/18/2012 11:08:48 AM
Some extra information:

-Hard wired connected directly to modem
-Nothing else is being used, modem is not wifi, ps3 is off, computer is idle and not downloading/uploading.
-Tried different ethernet cords

Normally, if I was using my computer or ps3, it takes about 50 minutes to download 1gb if my connection is being maxed. On the 360 it easily takes an hour or more for 500mb. I've been downloading this RE6 demo for 1 hour 40 minutes. It's 77% done and it's only 890mb total.

This happens any time I try to download anything on the 360 no matter the time of the day. A couple of weeks ago I was redownloading Shadow Complex at about 3am in the morning EST. Took several hours, as I watched television with my my computer shut down and ps3 not even connected (ps3 is usually left unplugged unless I want to download something).

Maybe my 360 is screwed up, I have no idea.

It must be user end related, I just downloaded DD which is 2 gigs and it took less then 30 minutes.

So my ISP could be throttling ONLY 360 downloads? I mean, I download probably 20-50gb a week no problem on my PC. This week just started and I'd say since sunday I've downloaded 35gb at max speed on my computer. Turn my downloads off on my PC to get the RE6 demo and it goes to crap. It actually just finished downloading as I am typing this.

Now I"m downloading the humble bundle on steam at my max speed.

It must be your provider. My 360 has always been much faster than my PS3.

How could it be user end related hah. PC downloads at max speed, is doing so now. PS3 downloads relatively quick. 360 just turtles a long.

Like, exactly how much can someone screw up by hooking in an ethernet cord? My connection isn't capable of downloading as fast as yours, not everyone has the same internet ya know.

I imagine RE6 is in high demand, those usually take longer.

If you always have slow downloads then it's probably something else.... do you live in the US? Do you forward ports to any console or computer? If you do forward ports, don't forward port 80 to any console or PC like the guides tell you to. Or 53. Just ignore those. Because if your'e forwarding port 80 to the PS3, it could mess up stuff for your other online consoles and your computers.

If you forward ports, that could mess with other consoles. Or your router might suck. and the automatic port forwarding (UPNP) could be screwing it up for you.
