Why do just released titles download a patch right after I insert the disk.

I am not the smartest programmer in the world so please don't flame me. I have just noticed this recently that alot of new titles download atleast a small patch the first time you play them, even on release day. Anyone know why?

Basically both publishers and developers nowadays feel that consumers are better testers since they pay them to test the games.

It's the reason Skyrim is such a mess.

Because a game is finished as much as 6 weeks before it hits the shelf. Even including the time to test the patch, that could be a month of extra polish and tweaks you are getting in a day one patch.

Idk, but so long as they're like 5 seconds, it usually gives me time to take a tinkle before the main menu comes up.

5 seconds?

You rockin' a power washer, Sun?

You must have to replace toilets quite often, dude.

I always thought it was the micro patch that enabled the Day 1 DLC.

Because half way through pressing the shipment of discs a dev ran up and shouted "****! We forgot to make it playable".

Happens all the time. Moleyneux forgot to add co-op to Fable 2 even though he hyped that feature for 2 years, Bethseda forgot to put textures in Fallout DLC because it slipped they're mind, and Konami released a two barely playable entries to Silent Hill and a third with no invert option......wait a second. Those last three never even got a patch.

Where do I sign up for next gen?

^ Don't you mean last gen? They couldn't afford to make mistakes like they can now because patching wasn't as possible back then.
