Three great games I'd recommend are the following. They are all very linear first person shooters (well, Mirror's Edge involves little shooting), but you don't really notice it, as they are so much fun.

Singularity - sort of a cross between Bioshock and Half-Life 2, with some nice ideas.

Bioshock 2 - I much prefer this to Bioshock 1, as I feel it improved on most of Bioshock 1's failings. Sadly it is very under-rated, as many people say that Bioshock 1 was a game that didn't need a sequel, and that B2's story and characters are less interesting than B1's (which is true, but most other things are better, including the gameplay). I do recommend that you play Bioshock 1 first, though. It's not necessary, but you should experience B1 beforehand, as otherwise B2 will lessen the impact of B1 upon you.

Mirror's Edge - A sort of Parkour based first person shooter, where you are mostly unarmed and have to run and jump across various rooftops and through buildings. Very good and pretty unique.

I'd really recommend all three of these games, all the more so since you can no doubt buy them used for very little money.

I will just keep with this generation.

Xbox 360 : Operation Darkness- great strategy/rpg game. I tried it first cause your characters could turn into werewolves in battles. I however didn't use that much and found it to be a fun strategy game, and think everyone should try it once.

PS3: Valkyrie Chronicles- That game alone would make me say it is enough to buy a ps3. I love strategy games, and this one while short was really great, and had a great story to it.

Multiplatform: Hunted: The Demon's Forge. It was a good action game, and it wasn't very well known from what I know. You have 2 characters that work side by side, and can switch between depending on the situation and how you want to take on the situation.
