It took them 2 full years to make a 16 bit Genesis game, it's going to take 5 or more for them to complete a 360 game.

this post is full of stupid

Yes, it is. They announced it would take them FOUR years to make the Genesis game, but it ended up taking them SIX years - they missed their launch date by two full years.

By the time they get the 360 version up and running it'll be 2020. ;-)

(Actually, I'm sure it'll be made easier with the tools provided to indie developers, they shouldn't miss their launch window by more than a year. 2014 at the latest.)

but do you know why they were delayed? I'm not going to get into the specifics because they explain in many interviews why it was delayed that much.

people worried about graphics:
they said that you will be able to switch from the HD graphics to the original 16 bit graphics through a hidden in game item.

people who think this will take forever:
the game is already done. they just need to port it, create the new art assets, coding is already obviously finished

people who say they will buy it eventually, but won't fund it:
if funding isn't successful (which it probably will be) you won't be buying it eventually, might as well donate to the cause and secure yourself a copy at the same time

I feel like they're missing the point of their own game with the HD version though.

It was supposed to be a love letter to 16 bit RPGs (something that might not be entirely lost with the remake), but also a showcase of just how far these people could push the limits of a long dead system. Part of the magic of that game was playing through it and seeing all of these interesting audio and visual tricks and wondering 'wow how the hell did they pull that off on this hardware?', and the fact that they're building the same game for HD systems without those limitations cheapens it.

It's still a wonderful game with a pretty fun story so it has that going for it, but I wish they would just do a reprint of the carts or a straight/optimized port to XBLA, Steam and the like. I hope that secret item to change it back isn't too hard to find, though, and that all of the neat little visual tricks work properly on HD displays.

being able to switch from hd to 16bit by finding a in-game item does not cheapen the game experience, its just a easter egg. im sure a game like this is going to full of 'em
