Looking for a TPS suggestion...

Binary Domain

Very good & underrated TPS.
You shoot robots like Vanquish, but have team-members like Gears or Spec-Ops.
It has plenty of boss fights, and you can upgrade your main weapons.
You can also choose which people make up your party and can choose from up to four.

I probably should get this. Not that that's what I'm looking for, but I did want it. I liked the demo

^ Just wanted to add that while Binary Domain takes place in the future and you shoot robots, its not as exaggerated as Vanquish is. I really like Vanquish, but that game is just plain silly most of the time.

It does have cover-based shooting too, but you aren't forced to do it as often as in say, gears of war.

Plus, the story is actually pretty good.
I'm not spoiling anything by setting up the plot, since it is discussed from the very beginning....but you are part of a team sent in to Japan to investigate a corporation that is charged with inventing human looking robots, which happens to be illegal.
And the story goes on from there, and does have a few interesting turns.

The game isn't perfect either....
The game is absolutely great at first, but around 3-quarters of the way the environments start to seem a bit repetitive. And some of the other weapons can't be upgraded, which means that they seem weak towards the end, making them somewhat less appealing.

However, the game has a good length, and should last you around 10 hours.
And once you beat the game, stick around after the credits for more of the ending, which was a nice add-on that made the campaign rewarding.

But given its sci-fi nature, its not as realistic as modern day shooters would be.
But then again, its not exaggerated like Vanquish either.

Plus, your squad members will tell you things & ask you things, and you are given the option to respond with one of 3 possible responses.
This will determine whether they like you are not.
If they like you, then they are more apt to defend you, and if you piss them off then they are less likely to...but overall its mostly inconsequential.
However, there is one character that will live or die based on your responses.

And other than Max Payne (& Spec-Ops: the Line), the only other somewhat realistic modern TPS is Army of Two: the 40th Day.
Its a decent shooter, but is short, and I personally took issue with the way the game was overly pessimistic...that is to say that the game had points where you are given an option to choose between two possible outcomes....problem is, that no matter which one you choose, there is a negative consequence, which really pissed me off.
But it does have good shooting mechanics and allows for weapon customization.
However, it is heavily cover-based and taking cover during fire-fights is essential (as it is in gears).
It also has a crappy ending, but if you liked Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days, then you shouldn't mind.

Another TPS possibility is, Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City.
That game i did not like though, as it has some serious issues such as poor hit detection, dumb as rocks team ai, and bosses that are nothing more than bullet sponges, among other things.
However it does have DLC that adds new missions.

I have both of them. I still have yet to finish TFD. I didn't like it at first but last time I played it I liked it and just never came back.

I think I stated I wasn't totally digging the K&L2 Demo.

There is also Alan Wake
Its just you with no ai partners, but it has plenty of TPS action.
The environments are dark & creepy, but very well designed.
I personally thought that the story & plot was convoluted as all heck, but its game-play is solid.

BTW
You really aren't missing much by passing on Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days.
The story is okay, but the game is incredibly short. I managed to beat it in a little over 4 hours on normal....and the ending was craptacular to boot.

I suppose it would be worth mentioning Red Dead Redemption as well...
I personally loved the game, but its not for everyone. It takes a lot of getting used to, and because of the open world nature of the game it can get boring & tedious at times.
But it does have a good story and good shooting mechanics.
You just won't be shooting all the time, as you have to do a bunch of other stuff.
Probably shouldn't have even mentioned it, but I am just trying to be thorough.

Lost Planet 2 is the most underrated. Should have been as popular as Gears multiplayer.

I liked the first game despite never beating it. I thought about getting it. Maybe I still will.

Also to the RDR suggestion. Played it. Beat it. Loved it.

Oh and I also played and beat Dark Sector.

It's not quite what you're looking for, but Transformers: Fall of Cybertron is one of the most underrated games this year. It is a delight.

Max Payne 3 is a must play.

Have you ever had a turkeyburger? Is that a fried turkey leg wrapped inside a burger? Because if so, then yes. Delicious.

I'd like to get it. But I'd like to beat WFC first.
